Make and Take's Friday and Saturday

We have a free make and take this Friday, November 30th.  It will from 11:30am-1:30pm.  We'll be making bookmarks on Friday and on Saturday, December 1st, we'll be making hot cocoa packets--not only will you go home with a handmade cocoa holder, but you'll go home with a hot cocoa packet and a chocolate covered candycane stir stick.  I made samples last night at the store and have yet to take pictures of the fab items.  I will try and get my hubby to take pix.  Don't forget the store has holiday hours until Christmas Eve.  We're open from 10am-8pm Monday-Saturday and on Sunday's from 10am-6pm.  We will also have hard copies of our new class schedule available at the store on Friday or by downloading them at our website at:  www.papergardenboutique.com

We have three asian card classes beginning in January.  Here's a card we did in our November class.  It's a geisha set from Kodomo inc rubber stamps.  It looks like a difficult card to make but it's not.  I just stamped the woman in black and colored her with copic pens and used a stippling brush with "burnt sienna" color box chalk inks and stippled all over the card.  It made a nice ancient look.  The stamp set also comes with a cherry blossom twig and I stamped it randomly all over the card

Geisha_card The bamboo boxes were stamped in color box chalk yellow ochre and the Kanji sentiment is by Judikins.  It's a famouse Japanese poem....  that's all i know!

Snoopy Here's one last card I have for today, it's a fun snoopy card.  I got the snoopy from a post-it note a customer wrote to me with.  I thought.. wow.. that snoopy is small enough to fit onto a cute card, so I save it and cut it out and made a template out of it.  I then took two pieces of red cardstock and made two boxy shapes and then outlined the house with a stitch-look in a black pen.  I then used the sentiment by a muse "relax it's your day" and punched it out with the blue oval scallop by marvy.  I also gave snoopy a nice bright black nose by using the self adhesive gemstones by doodlebug--  Good grief!

Miles meets his hero!

Santa_miles Hello!  Santa Claus and his elf came to visit him at the Paper Garden Boutique last weekend.  I think this will be our Holiday card to our friends and family.  I was really shocked he didn't cry when he saw him.

Miles gave Santa a "high 5" and he said.. Santa... I want a BIG truck.  When Santa left, Miles cried and cried and cried and couldn't understand why Santa left the store without giving him the truck that he asked for.  We told him he had to wait until Christmas day.. well, try telling that to a 2 year old!

With that story.. here's a cool card idea.  I took the a muse art 4 bar notecards and scored it at 1" at the bottom and then cut off 1.5"  on the other side of the notecard and made a matchbook,  I then used 5 pieces of cream cardstock and stapled them together for a homemade matchbook-style wishlist.. on the front there's a Santa Claus suit and it says "naught or nice"..it's a fun project for the whole family.

Christmas with an asian flair

It's been busy at the paper garden!  I finished one window.  Come by and see the beautiful white trees-- we decorated them with our oversized paper flowers.  The handmade papers are from our paper wall and we cut and pasted them into these big alice in wonderland-type flowers.  It's so pretty with the lights glimmering on through the papers.  Kelley has been busy getting ready for three big classes we have coming up for Friday and Saturday.  And Laurie is helping me remerchandise our children's section of fun toys and crafts.  We got a shipment of new kid diaries with locks!  New colored pencil sets and sketch books that match.. these are the best ever gifts for children.  The pencils come in tins and they have themes like butterflys, fairies, dinosaurs, ballerina's, horses, sooooooo cool.. I want one!   We also got in our shipment of Copic ciao pens.  Ok.. now I think I have every color made in this line.... I think.  I ordered these pens like 2 months ago, and they finally came.  They are must have's if you like to color in your cards.  These pens are from Japan, and they are manufactured there, the rep is in Oregon but it's like pulling teeth to get them when you want them.  So there heeeeeeeeeere.

I've also been working on card samples for this Saturday's gifts and goodies class.  I made a victorian cone, a calendar and a gift card holder.  I will have my husband take pictures of these because they make  such wonderful gifts!  Our class is sold out for Saturday.  But we still have room for our Friday, November 16th day class from 10am-12pm.  We also have our Asian card class on Friday from 10am-12pm and Friday evening from 6pm-8pm.  Call us at the store if you want to take the class.  Here's a card I made using some asian stamps.  I love how it turned out.

Card_2 I used a variety of stamps.  The flourish stamp is from Hero arts.  I love these stamps and use them for several cards.  If you just stamp the corners of your card off the page, it makes it look really euro-like (is that a word?), the vintage snowflake is also from hero arts.  There are two sizes.. a small and large.  I used the blue scalloped circle marvy punch and rolled in the french blue cat's eye ink pad and stamped the snowflake in blue lagoon.  The smaller snowflake is stamped in color box chalk aqua, the flourish stamp is stamped in dark brown color box chalk ink, and the cherry blossom is a set from kodomo inc and i stamped the blossoms in lipstick red.  If you look close, you'll see some silver around the flourish.  I used a marvy "fine tip" silver pen called deco color with xylene.  It's the best pen ever!!  I love it because it shines like aluminum, and if you like to mail your cards or invitations in darker colors like chocolate, black or burnt red, then this pen is for you.  It glimmers on the envelope and drys instant.  We have all colors available.  I also like the gold, dark pink, and white.  The fine tip pen lets you color in those small crevices.

Card_3 This next card is done with our new scalloped rectangle punches by marvy.  They come in several sizes, but these are the yellow, blue and pink and I stacked them in a 3-tier.  I stamped a cluster of small flowers by rubber soul, and punched out a small daisy for the upper left hand corner.  The white cardstock is edged with dark brown color box chalk cat eye's and I used a tiffany blue/chocolate sheer dot ribbon... and chocolate 5/8" ribbon and tied it at the bottom of the card.  Finally, I used frosted lace stickles to decorate the cake for frosting.  and also put it on top of the daisy.  It's a nice card for a wedding, anniversary or special birthday.

This Saturday is a make a take, I am lame, I still have to figure out what we'll be doing.  The make and take is from 11:30am-1:30pm-- shop during these hours and get 10% off the store when you participate, if you come in after 1:30pm, you can still make a card until 5pm.  I will be in the bay area this weekend!  Hooooooray.. a day off.  I don't know what that feels like.  Ken, Miles and I will be spending the weekend in S.F... so exciting.  I plan to go to kara's cupcakes, pier 39 for Miles,  the Paul Frank store (my favvvvvvv!) and a specialty tea store in the Nordstrom shopping center.  I also want to eat clam chowder, and check out some new hip restaurants.   Altho, with Miles,  I think our 4 star restaurant will end up being Blondie's pizza in union square.  My husband and I got married at the Palace Hotel in S.F., so hopefully we'll be able to eat Sunday brunch in the Garden Court where we had our reception with 400 guests!!!  Yikes.. that was a big wedding!!  I'll have to take some pix of our fun excursion to the city by the bay!

Winter cards

We had our 4th Christmas card class last weekend.  Here are some cards that we made.  They are really simple and fun!Winter_1 This card was made from snowflake stamps.  The stamps are from Hero arts and Savvy stamps.  I used the new elzybells sentiment stamp by a muse art stamps.  I used colorbox chalk ink pads:  Blue lagoon, ice blue, and jade.  Then stamped another Savvy stamps snowflake on white cardstock, using the yellow marvy circle scalloped punch, I punched out the snowflake and put a clear gemstone on the top.  I also used prisma glitter on the top of the snowflakes to give it some shine.  So crisp!

Winter_2

This next card I used the purple marvy circle punch and stamped a french flourish stamp by hero arts all over in lime pastel.  I then put clear gemstones all over and cut out a piece of chocolate cardstock and scalloped the edges.  I used the Hero arts holiday birds (set of 3), stamped them and cut them out, colored them with twinkling h2o's and stamped the sentiment with Impress rubber stamps "happy holidays" (curvy).  Also, I used a paper clip to attach the ribbon so it looks like it's a ornament hanging.  The gold glittering effect is the marvy deco color gold pen.  It's really nice and shiiny.  I love the effect.

Winter_4_2 This next card is a great gift for anyone who likes hot chocolate.  It's good for teacher gifts, girlfriend gifts, neighbors, mailman, etc.  It's just a 4.25 X 5.5 card and I cut it at an angle.  I then trimmed about a .5" from the bottom so I could fold over the cardstock to make the card into a pocket.  I punched three holes and affixed ribbon.  The stamps are perfect.  They are all from a muse art stamps.  I punched out the chocolate scalloped circle with the blue marvy punch, and the circle is a 1.5" yellow circle marvy punch.  I then used white liquid pearls to make the cup have a marshmellow effect as well as the brown punch.  I have been looking high and low for candy canes but it's still too early, so if you pkg this with a candy cane it's a perfect stir stick.  The peppermint hot chocolate comes from Sam's club.  You get 24 packets for under

9 bucks.  What a deal!  It's delicious too.  I bought 3 boxes!  We'll be doing this card Saturday night in our holiday gifts and gift tags class.

  Winter_5

This is another project we'll be doing in our class on Saturday night.  It's a microwave popcorn holder and you can put movie tickets inside.  It's a great gift idea or stocking stuffer.. and who doesn't like popcorn!  yum!!

The punch is the yellow scallop circle by marvy.  The stamps are all from A muse art stamps.

Tuesday make and take

Hi!  On Tuesday, November 6th from 11:30am-1:30pm, we have a free make and take.  Shop between these lunchtime hours and receive 10% off the store!  I don't have a picture of the make and take, but it's a Thanksgiving matchbook notecard that you could write why you are thankful.  It's a great project for the family.

Fall_card_1 Here's another card that represents fall.  The rainbow effect is by using glossy white cardstock.  Have you had a chance to use the colorbox chalk cat eye ink pads?  They come in a set of 6 colors, and I used three different colors (tangerine, ime pastel, and yellow ochre) and dabbed them onto the cardstock and then took a piece of tissue (yes, kleenex) and rubbed it off.  The effect is really cool.  My girlfriend Erin Komatsubara taught me this technique, it's called "chalk resist" and it works really well.  After I chalked the glossy cardstock, I stamped the birds on the tree (hero arts stamps) three times in versamark onyx and finally, the fall sentiment (Memory box co).

Fall_card_2 This next card is one of my favorites.  It's the fall leaves set from Kodomo Inc.  The leaves come in a set of 6.  The artist actually made these stamps from "real" leaves, you can see the veins.  Pretty cool!

I stamped the leaves in color box chalk ink pads: olive, burnt sienna, yellow ochre and lime pastel.  The card is an A2 size, but I cut off 1", so i can stamp the 4th leaf onto the side of the card.  These cardstocks are memory box and they all have white in the inside. I love Dave Brethauer's cardstocks.  They are so pretty and we carry all 51 colors that he has.  We also carry all of the envelope colors.  You can get a package of 25 cut and scored cards for 6.50, envelopes are 7.50.  Dave put together a holiday pack which includes the most popular Christmas colors and he packaged them up for the store.

The sentiment "happy fall" is from A muse art stamps.  I love Linda's new line of a muse art cardstocks as well.. we have all of them!!
